Hwang Hyunseung transforms ordinary daily emotions into extraordinary and beautiful forms through exceptional poetic sensibility. His art is reserved, yet beneath its surface lies a profound depth of emotion and feeling. His works are characterized by subdued hues and deep, tranquil touches. The artist does not rely on any specific theories; rather, he bases his work on his heart and instinct. For Hyunseung, art serves as a means to comprehend the unfathomable aspects of others and the world, rather than merely a vehicle to express his personal thoughts and opinions.
The artist is not confined by a single philosophy or subject matter. Instead, he pursues variations in both the content and forms within his art according to internal changes brought on by the flow of life. Unbound by artistic trends and movements, Hyunseung works across abstract and figurative genres at his own pace.
Hyunseung seeks to understand the essence of the world and desires the substance of beauty. However, agnosticism precludes the artist from truly grasping the world, and nihilism prevents him from approaching beauty. His artwork bears traces of an existential struggle as he attempts to affirm existence and life even in the face of human limitations and life’s absurdities.
