   권소영에게 ‘자연’은 각별하다. 그녀는 한때 여행과 등산으로 마음의 고통을 치유했다. 이후 작가는 강원도 지역에서 몇 년 간 레지던시를 이어가게 되는데, 이 시기는 그녀가 자연과 뗄 수 없는 관계로 엮이는 결정적 계기가 되었다. 작가는 강원도에서 소나무 표피를 관찰하고 세밀하게 묘사하는 작업에 빠져들었다. 나무에 대한 관심이 그녀를 자연으로 내몰았고, 나무에 국한되었던 천착은 자연 전반을 향한 몰입으로 확대되었다. 그때부터 작가는 자연과 지속적으로 접촉하며 풍경화에 매진한다.
   권소영의 풍경화는 탁월한 묘사력 때문에 일견 실경처럼 보이지만, 사실은 작가의 감성과 상상력에 의해 많은 부분이 첨삭되며 이루어지는 이상적 풍경이다. 작가는 자연에서 느낀 감정들을 효과적으로 표현하기 위해서 실경의 여러 요소들을 세심하게 변주한다. 편안하면서도 짙은 호소력을 지닌 그녀의 풍경화는 많은 사람들의 마음을 움직이며 꾸준히 사랑받고 있다.

   For Kwon So Young, 'nature' commands an extraordinary distinction. There was a period when she found solace and healing in traveling and hiking amidst the burdens of her internal distress. The subsequent years she spent in a residency within the region of Gangwon-do served as a seminal turning point, knitting together an irrevocable bond between the artist and the natural world. The artist found herself engrossed in an intensive study and nuanced portrayal of the pine bark, indigenous to the area. This singular interest in trees propelled her towards an extensive exploration of nature, broadening her curiosity from an initial fixation on trees to an all-encompassing immersion into the natural world. This marked the inception of her persistent dialogue with nature, leading her to dedicate her oeuvre to the genre of landscape painting.  
   While Kwon So Young's landscape works bear a striking resemblance to real vistas owing to her exceptional depiction, they are, in essence, idealized sceneries, heavily edited by the artist's sentiment and imagination. The artist employs a meticulous modulation of various elements in the real landscape to effectively convey the emotions she encounters in nature. Her landscape works, imbued with a gentle yet profound pathos, resonate with many, continually garnering affection and admiration.
